​Thank you for your interest in applying with the City of Gervais Police Department for the position of Police Officer.  Listed below are the minimum standards and selection process.  We hope this information will assist you in understanding our agency’s process.  The first step in the process is to fill out the employment application and submit it to the Gervais Police Department; accuracy, truthfulness and thoroughness are essential to the application process.

The following are the minimum requirements for becoming a Police Officer at the Gervais Police Department: 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must not have been convicted of any felony, or any law involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic or dangerous drug; domestic violence; or any law involving dishonesty or moral turpitude as identified in Oregon Administrative Rules 259-008-0070
  • Must be of good moral fitness as determined by a thorough background investigation
  • Must possess a high school diploma or demonstrate successful completion of a General Education Development (GED) test
  • Must have valid driver’s license

Other Consideration:

  • Desirable qualification: Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Currently certified or eligible to be certified will be given preference


Selection Process:

The selection process for Gervais Police Department sworn officer candidates may include the following components: 

  • ORPAT (non-certified applicants only)
  • National Police Officer Selection (POST) Test
  • Supplemental questionnaire (on-line Personal History Questionnaire)
  • Oral interview board
  • Comprehensive background investigation
  • Psychological exam
  • Physical exam (F-2) Minimum requirements mandated by Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (Oregon Administrative Rules 259-008-0010(8)
  • Drug screen
  • Physical (medical) and psychological examinations will be conducted as the final step in the selection process after a conditional job offer.
